PE
Text
At Upton Heath, Physical Education is planned and assessed using the Complete PE scheme, ensuring children receive a broad, progressive and well-structured curriculum across all areas of PE.
Lessons develop children's physical skills, tactical understanding and enjoyment of sport, alongside important values such as teamwork, fair play and resilience. Making full use of our extensive school grounds and sports facilities, children experience a wide range of activities that build confidence, fitness and a lifelong love of being active.
Beyond the classroom, we offer a wide range of sports clubs throughout the year, including football, netball, rounders, dodgeball, dance and tennis, to name a few. These clubs are run by both school staff and specialist sports coaches, giving children the opportunity to develop their skills further and discover new sporting interests in a fun, supportive environment. We compete successfully in numerous local competitions and have also achieved notable success at regional level, giving children the chance to represent Upton Heath with pride.
We are extremely proud that Upton Heath has been awarded the Gold School Games Mark for four consecutive years, recognising our commitment to providing high-quality PE, sport and physical activity opportunities for all pupils. Building on this success, we are now working towards the Platinum School Games Mark for the coming year, reflecting our continued ambition to embed competition, personal challenge and school-community engagement even further into school life.
Through Complete PE and our extensive extra-curricular offer, children build their skills progressively as they move through the school, developing competence across a range of sports and physical disciplines while learning to reflect on and improve their own performance. Lessons and clubs alike encourage children to challenge themselves, support one another, and demonstrate our Christian value of Courage as they try new activities and persevere through difficulty.
By the time they leave Upton Heath, children will have developed a genuine enthusiasm for physical activity, along with the skills, confidence and values to lead active, healthy lives. We believe that our PE curriculum, broad range of clubs, and success in the School Games Mark together prepare children well for a lifelong engagement with sport and physical wellbeing.
