At Upton Heath, Geography is delivered through our Quest Curriculum, immersing children in three-week blocks of learning that bring geographical concepts and knowledge to life. Across Key Stage 2, children explore a rich variety of geography topics, developing their understanding of the world, its people, places and environments.

Each Geography Quest is carefully planned so that key concepts and knowledge are revisited during writing sessions, helping children to embed and apply what they have learned, rather than encountering it in isolation.

This approach ensures that children gain a deep and lasting knowledge of geography, building connections between what they learn in Quest lessons and how they express that understanding through their writing. Revisiting geographical vocabulary, facts and ideas in this way strengthens both retention and understanding, helping children to make meaningful, lasting connections between subjects. Our curriculum is designed to be Relevant, Engaging, Aspirational, Creative and Holistic, encouraging children to think like geographers as they investigate the world around them.

By the time they leave Upton Heath, children will have developed a secure and well-connected knowledge of geography, alongside curiosity about the wider world and the diverse places and communities within it. We believe that this approach, combining rich Quest learning with regular opportunities to revisit and apply knowledge through writing, prepares children well for their continued geographical learning at secondary school and beyond.
