Welcome to Year 4! We have two classes in Year 4, Lime and Hazel. You can meet your teachers to the right.

Quests:

Our current curriculum quest is “Sound and Electricity”  This will focus on Science skills and knowledge. In our sound lessons, the children will learn how sounds are made, how sound travels and begin to explore patterns between vibrations, volume and pitch. In our electricity lessons, the children will work practically to construct a series of circuits, identifying and naming the symbols for basic electrical parts. Throughout our English lessons, we will be consolidating our learning from the previous term. The pupils will be looking at word classifications and developing their writing skills by creating and applying expanded noun phrases and conjunctions. The shared texts will be both fiction and non-fiction and some will be closely linked to our science lessons.

Maths:

Our focus will start with addition and subtraction and then area and measure as we move through to the end of the term. We will also develop our speed and fluency of our times table recall, in preparation for the Multiplication Table Check (MTC) in June 2025.

PE:

This half term Lime class will have PE on a Wednesday morning where they will take part in Hockey and Dance. Hazel Class will start their Tuesday morning swimming sessions on 4th November 2025. Hazel Class will also have Forest School sessions in the ‘Mini Woods’ on Wednesday mornings. On their PE days, Children should come into school with their PE kit on and school jumper.

Reading Books:

Reading books and reading records should be brought in every day. Children will read daily and any reading at home should be noted in their reading records. As always, the children are responsible for changing their own books and ensuring that quizzes are completed in class. They will be given plenty of opportunities to change their reading books. Reading books will be check by the teachers on a Wednesday.

Home Learning:

We would like the children to be reading regularly (preferably each day) and practicing their timetables on Times Table Rockstars. The children can also access Numbots to support their knowledge of number. The children will also be expected to learn weekly spellings from their spelling lists – given out at the start of each half term – and these will be tested on a Friday.
